“the shift”

NANCY CHICHIOCO RAZON

Our jobs as parents do not end when they graduate when they start working or getting married. We worry about their physical safety and their health. We also worry about the progress of their careers and how their children are coming along. They continue to be our children long after they have left the nest.

After working for 35 years, I decided to retire.  Within a month, I took up a postgraduate course at RMT-CEFAM.  My reason for enrolling was to fill in my free time. This move is between my painting schedule and other consultancy work. I started with a subject or two. But eventually, I took a full load. I finished with a Diploma Course on Family Counselling for that year.

During the first semester, I was unsure of what I wanted to do after having worked for over three decades.  My body system had gotten used to a busy routine. The thought of having to break this brought a lot of uncertainties.  Meanwhile, I knew I was transitioning to a new phase in my life.  I searched for something more meaningful, which I would like to do for the rest of my life.

I was inspired to paint “the shift” after watching a film in a class by Wayne Dyer.  At the time, I was exploring my inner self and seeking the truth.  I knew I wanted to be able to do more things for others.

While I was focusing on my studies, I encountered several challenges.  I persevered, however, and listened to where I was being led.  By the end of the second semester, the way became clear.  I was to take the road less traveled, where I would hone my skills.  This moment is also where I would learn to pause and listen. Above all, I would be moving towards my personal growth, self-fulfillment – inner peace.

My second painting, “Paseo de Reilly,” was the road that I discovered safe for me.

Your painting of The Shift is arresting. Would have loved to have it but I know how much you hold it dear to your heart. As the painting portrays, an outward focus makes you see so much more of the trees within your midst.
