CELERY
James 1: 2-5
Consider it all joy, my brothers, when you encounter various trials, for you know that the testing of your faith produces perseverance. And let perseverance be perfect, so that you may be perfect and complete, lacking in nothing. But if any of you lacks wisdom, he should ask God who gives to all generously and ungrudgingly, and he will be given it.
Life as a Christian has been one continuous, positive, and growth experience for me. I cannot imagine my life without a personal connection, i.e., a relationship with God. It would be meaningless and purposeless.
For one thing, I have undergone serious problems and trials in my life. And God never failed to give me the insight and understanding of how to respond and what to do. His answers to my prayers were not always what I had wished for. Yet, I would later find out that what would happen was for the best.
Last week was one of those times when I needed God so badly. My husband’s illness had reached a point when I felt we were reaching the end of the line. He was deteriorating. In his fragile condition, I could not bear the thought of confining him to a hospital. I also resisted the idea of a nurse coming daily to our place to assist. Catching the coronavirus was the riskier possibility. No other medical solution was in sight.
It was at this moment of desperation that I went on my knees in tears. I begged and cried aloud to God to grant me the wisdom to know how to manage this particular difficulty I was facing.
But God is faithful to his promises as always!
Later that afternoon, I was finally able to talk to my friend, Mariecar, with whom I had difficulty getting in touch over the last few days. During our conversation, Mariecar, out of the blue, thought of this excellent neurologist whom she and her family would consult, especially for emergencies! The doctor is her sister’s classmate in medical school.
I knew right away that this was God’s immediate answer to my prayer! The doctor was conveniently available to receive my call that day. It was as if my burden had been lifted, and a general feeling of exhilaration came all over. I suddenly felt energetic and filled with joy. I gave my endless praises and thanks to God throughout the rest of the night.
A few days after, God confirmed his answer. It neither surprised me, nor did I find it coincidental. He used Oswald Chambers daily devotional book, My Utmost for His Highest. The prayer I cried out that morning was from a Scripture passage – verse 5 of James’s first book. I knew the passage but did not recall it at that time.
“But if any of you lacks wisdom, he should ask God who gives to all generously and ungrudgingly, and he will be given it.”
Chambers said that in this verse, the prayer of a person would be granted if these conditions are present:
First, he wrote that the person must ask “out of the depths of his total insufficiency and poverty. “
Secondly, “to be able to receive means that you have to come into the relationship of a child of God.” This person would comprehend and appreciate mentally, morally, and with spiritual understanding, that these things come from God.”
Finally, he says, “if you realize that you are lacking, it is because you have come in contact with spiritual reality – do not put the blinders of reason on again. We will never receive it if we ask with a certain result in mind. A pauper does not ask out of any reason other than the completely hopeless and painful condition of his poverty.”
That morning, I had the right formula in my heart and met all the necessary conditions in my prayer. God answered me. I received the wisdom I asked for. God always answers prayers!
Suddenly remembering a striking insight of one teenage girl who has been born into a world of deprivation…
“Marami na akong hiniling kay God na hindi nangyari. Ngayon tanggap ko na lahat ’yon. Alam ko na kung ano man ang gusto niyang ibigay sa akin at gusto niyang mangyari sa buhay ko ay para sa kabutihan ko.”
Thank you for sharing your personal story of hope in God’s faithfulness and wisdom!
Dear Celia,
Thank you for sharing your innermost thoughts and problems, as well as your intimate conversations with God. May you always receive His love and responses, especially during critical moments.
We can only share your angst and pray that He gives you courage and strength every day as you go through this trial. Just know that while we may be helpless during your neediest moments, we are praying harder that God will always be there for you and never abandon you. Take care, Celia.
Beautifully expressed…. may we emulate you in many spiritual ways, to ease any burden we hold. Grateful to have you among us….keeping you and dearest one in my daily prayers.
Thank you Celia for sharing your prayer experience. God indeed answers all our prayers, sometimes not as we expected, but always the outcome is for our own good. We have an awesome God whose love is boundless. May God continue to guide and bless you during this difficult phase in your life.
Thanks for sharing, Celia. Indeed, He answers all our prayers in the way that’s best for us. We just have to “let go … and let God!” Prayers for you, Andy and the family. Stay strong and safe!
