As we go through this journey of bright and dark colors, ups and downs….
As we go through this journey of joy and sadness, triumphs and fears….
Music as God’s gift
From a young age, I always had a passion for music. I believe that it’s God’s gift. Music connects the human race regardless of cultural diversity. It has several uses, such as in the rites of passage from birth to death. Positive traits develop through studying music: patience, perseverance, and creativity, among others.
A few years ago, I had further studies in a different discipline, Music Therapy. It is both science and art. Music Therapy is multidimensional because it is a medium to help people heal and benefit from their physical, emotional, psychological, cognitive, and spiritual functions through music to promote health.
Filipinos have innate musicality; we respond well to music. As part of my studies, I had the opportunity to speak with various support groups of people with chronic illnesses in hospitals. The people that I encounter have shared their pain and stories too. The musical experiences that I prepared for them have helped in unloading their baggage. I was humbled to have been given their trust despite meeting them for the first time.
It is heartwarming to reach out and help special children, geriatric populations and attend outreach programs. It is a challenging yet fulfilling profession. I see this as my mission and purpose in life.
As a music therapist, I felt the need to inspire and comfort people during these trying times. This song had started to be composed during the lockdown. Many people were dying while families had been struck by grief. Others were losing their jobs and struggling to make ends meet. Everyone was trying to cope with the massive change that had impacted our way of living. When our faith and hope are tested in this time of distress, it is best to express our innermost thoughts and emotions through music. Hence, this song was made to spread a message and help us through all these trials.
