TERESITA TANSECO-CRUZ

I. JESUS IS CONDEMNED TO DEATH

Lord, grant me the grace to withstand rejection, betrayal, unfairness, and harsh judgment by others with your humble equanimity. Remove from my heart the egoistic need to win a dispute, get even, be thought of well, or impress others.

II. JESUS CARRIES HIS CROSS

Lord, grant me the grace to accept my “crosses,” meaning things do not go my way or fail my expectations. Please help me to recognize pain, discomfort, inconvenience, disappointment, and distress as your call to carry the true cross of my commitment to you.

III. JESUS FALLS FOR THE FIRST TIME

Lord, as I falter and fall on the harsh pavement of struggles, setbacks, and sorrow, grant me the grace, as I shed tears from self-pity, to gaze out at you across the ground while you shed blood with nothing but absolute love for me.

IV. JESUS MEETS HIS MOTHER

Lord, grant me the grace to follow Mary in letting you “do and be” according to the Father’s will even as her heart breaks with grief, with profound humility and courage so that I, too, may love my children or any person you would entrust to me, as God’s children and not mine to control or dominate.

V. SIMON CARRIES THE CROSS

Lord, grant me the grace of compassion as I help the needy or the suffering without calculating risks or feeling sacrificial; without hope for a reward or even a sense of gratification. Please help me to know only the joy of doing it in your company and your grace.

VI. VERONICA WIPES THE FACE OF JESUS

Lord, grant me the grace to come forward to show my love for you even if it can sometimes be lonely, unpopular, or frightening. Just grant that I do it with quiet conviction. No fanfare. No self-glorifying stances.

VII. JESUS FALLS FOR THE SECOND TIME

Lord, grant me the grace to resist complaining, as I hit the pavement yet again, with “What now?” or “Will this never end?” Help me remember that every fall, every frustrating failure in your company comes with your call to get up stronger and walk closer to your footsteps.
