My contribution to this White Butterfly website comes from an entrepreneur’s perspective – how God plays a part in my role as a business leader and how He works through an enterprise to create great value.

Therein lies a dilemma. The perspective starts with me and continues with a business enterprise. First, there would be like talking about a photon and seeing how the sun supports its purpose.

I wanted context, clarity. My role as an entrepreneur and the purpose of an enterprise originates from something larger than ourselves and helps define our destiny. Denying this universal reality would be ignorantly foolish.

Nicolaus Copernicus was deemed a heretic. Today, his scientific theories and discoveries shed light and truth on our realities. They provide the scientific perspective of what is the center of whom and the nature of their relationship.

With that in mind, I thought it logical to start with where I believe we should all begin. We need to search for and understand truth beyond our often myopic views, not just as scientists or business practitioners but also as human beings. When we do that, I believe the elegant design of our enterprises and the application of our sciences will bring out the best the universe has to offer – and for the right reasons.

Therefore, a God-first approach is a logical place to start.

Sometimes there is nothing more comforting to me than the warm embrace of the sun first thing in the morning. The sun gives light, energy, and heat – all necessary for life to exist on earth. Yet the gentle sunrise is just a hint of what the sun is and the context of its existence.

Each hour 430 quintillion Joules of energy from the sun hits the earth (you can do your own research to see just how much energy that is but trust me, that’s a lot). The sun is so large and far away that it takes 8mins and 20 seconds (traveling at light speed) for its rays to reach us. And to think, with all its majesty, our sun is just another star. In context, there are over 100 billion of these stars in our galaxy whose light can take up to 2.5 million years to get to earth.

When I consider this context, I am both awestruck and humbled. The astronomical expanse of the universe in both time and space, which moves towards infinity, really gives my personal view of the “here and now” perspective and clarity. I am like a mere photon (a quantum of light) in the Milky Way of suns.

Understanding and accepting my extremely tiny, finite existence allows me to embrace the realm of truth – that I am not the center of the solar system, let alone the universe. I am, however, a fundamental element of light – light that gives illumination, power, and life to an infinite universe.

In my reflection, I have found that the infinite universe is a manifestation of an infinite God. Although I will never be able to fully grasp all the science, knowledge, and wisdom of an infinite God, I can still find meaning and purpose in my finite life. The continuous search for these truths from God’s finite (limited) within his infinite (endless) design is like a photon traveling through space and time. In total harmony with its light source, it becomes more of what it was made to be over time and through unity with fellow photons. Then, with the consistency of light traveling across the universe, God reveals his truth throughout the journey. My journey will therefore be finite. But it will be an infinitely spiritual one.

I look forward to seeing the sun rise again tomorrow.

  1. Thank you, Dino, for that debut worth waiting for! The science info was pretty interesting, and then some. Keep bathing in the sunlight, bright photon, and spreading His light like nobody’s business.
