Aging is a concept. I hadn’t fully contemplated it until recently, during a discussion in our growth group at the Center for Family Ministries (CEFAM). This prompted me to reflect deeply, inspiring me to paint Aging Gracefully.”

As I journeyed through different stages of life—from childhood to adolescence, young adulthood, middle age, and now my senior years—I always felt vibrant and full of energy. I immersed myself in various activities and set numerous personal goals, firmly believing in the importance of pursuing them all at once. In the fast-paced corporate world, I balanced my roles as a wife, mother, and banker, often multitasking to meet diverse objectives. I seized every opportunity to learn, support others, and spread joy, eagerly saying “YES” to nearly every request in my quest to fulfill my dreams.

Now in my 60s, I’ve noticed changes in my physical appearance and a gradual decrease in strength. Tasks that once took a day now stretch to a week. While my drive remains strong and my desire to engage is undiminished, my energy wanes more quickly. It feels surreal, yet I’m beginning to embrace this new chapter of my life. Since retirement from corporate work, I’ve redirected my focus to what truly matters. The distractions of my youth are fading, replaced by a more profound sense of contentment.

Though I may lack the same vitality in these golden years, I have gained invaluable wisdom, compassion, and peace. I’ve learned to pause and appreciate my life with gratitude and humility. Aging has become a beautiful phase, allowing me to make a difference by sharing my talents, time, and resources.

I find joy in my art, mainly through painting and crafting. I also channel this happiness into my counseling work, where I listen and offer uplifting perspectives, helping others gain fresh insights into their lives. Ultimately, aging is just a number; the desire to live fully and joyfully, to maintain a childlike spirit, remains alive within me.
