Gaps and Missing Pieces

CELERY

Gaps and missing pieces are very much part of my life.  I can be happy and satisfied one day, anxious or insecure the next. I consider myself fairly down to earth and sensible, feeling good and assured when on top of a situation. But at times, I forget to see the more significant and objective picture I know exists because I get bogged down by details of my daily life or perhaps by unmet expectations and uncontrolled emotions. When that happens, I end up making decisions I later regret. I get frustrated, disappointed, unreasonably angry, and stressed out.

My many gaps come by different names such as emptiness, weakness, shortcomings, disruption, hindrance, impediment, drawback, snag, or handicap. It seems that these obstacles come at a regular pace, whether surmounted or not. Sometimes they come in quick succession, or even at the same time! What does it all signify? Is one supposed to live from gap to gap, then die merely? Or does it all come together in one meaningful whole?

Yes, it does.

My fifty-year marriage with my husband is a testament to how we have lasted in a challenging relationship. How we were able to bridge and reconcile our fundamental differences and how we overcame our trials and difficulties are the motivation behind this post.

Our encounter with God, who created us and loved us unconditionally, was the power mover behind this miracle of God’s intervention.  We discovered that he is the source and provider of all our needs.  He has become our truth, our way, and our eternal destiny.  To this day, he continues to perfect and complete what is lacking in our marital life.

The bible passage in 1 John 4:12 speaks of this reality:

“No one has ever seen God.  Yet, if we love one another, God remains in us, and his love is brought to perfection in us.”

He is life and love itself and fills the gaps and the missing pieces of our lives.

  1. So beautiful Cel and so very true. For those of us who know you personally, we are living witnesses of what you’ve been through and how you have been able to bounce back because you have always let God fill in those gaps. You inspire us by your persevering faith and love for God and your family. May you remain steadfast in your faith and inspire more people like us. Take care of yourself too.

  2. Celia, I agree with Bing wholeheartedly!

Keep the white butterfly flying for the rest of us of us who travel different roads and need stoplights and signs to remind us to look left and right before proceeding with haste to wherever we think God is leading us. None of us drive on straight highways so we need people to give us directions (with the Tanseco siblings, mainly inspiration), pump gas, air or fix our flat tires.

My sense of direction has been faulty for more than half a century, so I appreciate mucho this white butterfly hovering ahead of me.

LOL and ABC, (Lots of Love; and Abrazos, Besos y Cariño)

  3. Agreeing with you wholeheartedlly Celia! I have my own gaps and missing pieces too, every day. And I see this all around me, in you and in everyone else!

The beauty is that we have our Lord right beside us. We can only pray and do so much, and leave the rest on Him to do into perfection His imperfect work.

    Take care!
