Learning to Fly High

CELERY

For several months now, I have been experiencing dryness in my spiritual life. The current situation I am in has been tough. My world had been going up and down with no clear sign of respite.

The relief came as I said my prayer one morning. The words I uttered were what I needed to hear, even if this was nothing new to me. Almost immediately, it lifted the dryness and interior disturbance I had been battling for a long time.  The Lord enlarged my view of what it is to be his faithful follower. Through his eyes, he made me not only see the bigger picture but also touched me up close and deeper than ever before.

“You created me, Father.  I belong to you. I was bought at a price when your son, Jesus, died on the cross for me. Everything I have and own comes from you.  Nothing is mine, and everything is yours. You are in control of all situations and circumstances in my life, not me.”

I realized this prayer is powerful because it declares both the nature of my relationship with God and his lordship over me. From now on, it will be my battle cry when I am going through a trial or in pain.   If need be, I will chant it every day.

Some things I had been struggling and grappling with fell into place like pieces of a jigsaw puzzle.  My hesitancy or refusal to accept things as they are or my anxiety over unexpected changes melted away.  My guilt in failing to obey God diminished as I became aware that all he wants of me is to account for my response to his particular agenda for me day by day.  Letting go of attachments to perspectives, people, or things gives him leeway to help me.  God initiates and leads while I follow or wait on him in prayer.  This divine formula has liberated me!

Above all, God has given me his peace and joy.   I thank him for bringing me to a point where I desire to learn how to fly higher with him.

Acts 20:24 confirms that “None of these things move me, nor do I count my life dear to myself, so that I may finish my race with joy and the ministry which I received from the Lord Jesus.”
