GIRLIE PINEDA-TY

My husband, Eddie’s health problems started in 2010. By God’s grace, although wheelchair-bound today, his medical and physical needs are met. But he was always lukewarm to any suggestion of spiritual nourishment. Though, he would hear Sunday TV mass and sometimes joins me when I say my daily rosary. He always refused my offers to bring in a priest or a spiritual counselor even for a chat.

When Eddie’s cousin, Rose, visited us last October, she thought of Fr. Poly Ty, a priest-cousin from the Blessed Sacrament Order. She promised to contact him at Sta. Cruz Church, his last known address, and will request him to see us. We last saw Fr. Poly at my mother-in-law’s funeral in 2009. To my surprise, Eddie was enthusiastic in welcoming him to our home.

Find Fr. Poly, Rose did, and he came to see us this morning. It happens that this is the only week Fr. Poly would be in Manila after making a quick trip to Hong Kong. Afterward, he would return to Hilo, Hawaii, where he is currently based. Fr. Poly and Eddie spent a good hour by themselves.

I don’t know what transpired during that hour and will most likely never know, but it doesn’t matter. It is enough for me that God decided “it is time” for this epiphany of sorts and directed Rose and Fr. Poly to make it happen. Is this the start of Eddie’s renewed relationship with the Lord? Only time will tell, but I see God’s hand in this serendipitous occurrence.

Thank you, Lord, for this beautiful Christmas gift. We are so blessed!
