Hold On

Psalm 23:4

Even though I walk through the valley of the shadow of death, I will fear no evil, for You are with me.

Amid a global pandemic, this verse could not be more relevant. We confine ourselves in our homes and watch the covid numbers rise each day as people lose their jobs. While the government struggles to contain the virus, all these can cause us to be afraid and anxious.

In some way or another, the world is in “the valley of the shadow of death.” But I believe that God is with us, and we do not need to be afraid. All we need is to hold on to Him.

I am 15 years old, and I am entering 10th grade this coming school year. I wrote the lyrics to a song I composed entitled “Hold On” for the patients affected by Covid-19.

The inspiration for this song was back in April in my prayer. I asked God how best he wanted me to make use of my time during this pandemic. This was the message I received at the time.

Rather than sit around worrying about when the pandemic would end, I need to act on how I could make a difference. I wanted to do it, but how? I did not even know how to make masks or raise money or anything like that. But I sensed a strong message from God in my heart. People do not only need healthcare and safety but hope and encouragement. And what better way to give to them than with the talents he gave me.

Once God made me realized this, the first group of people that came to mind were the patients. After all, they are the ones this whole pandemic is affecting the most! And one phrase stuck in my mind when I thought of what they need to hear: Hold On. Hold on to life – Hold on to hope – and Hold on to God. I want the patients to know that God is always with them, no matter how alone they might feel.

My song may have been intended for COVID-19 patients. But I hope it can inspire everyone in some way – to hope in Jesus – during this pandemic.

God bless and stay safe!

  2. Your soothing song reminds us that we are a People of Hope. As you were singing, I was remembering friends and acquaintances who have struggled and survived COVID.

Doubly uplifting is the fact that you have just stepped into your teen years, this young generation whose lives have been affected by COVID in so many ways, and yet, your hope is steadfast and overflowing.

Thank you for your inspiring response to this pandemic!
