Light of Day

My initial reaction to Covid was unsettling. The havoc that it brought upon our world was so sudden – no one had a chance to process what was happening. I knew it was disconcerting, but I thought, perhaps it will pass soon, and maybe it wasn’t as bad as it seemed. I did my small part and prayed about it.

As time ironically dragged on as well as slipped away, I started to realize that things were strangely haunting. Misery has always been present in our world, but this one felt different. I would soon find out that this entity, invisible to the senses, was even more complex, potent, and more devastating as originally conceived. It was about to touch every single one of us in some way or the other.

At this point, I looked up to the Father and had to ask, “Why?” I knew I had to be empty to receive what He had to give. Eventually, I felt a profound sense of reassurance, a renewed sense of faith.

The answer had to do with giving God control, and we all know that it’s not easy to trust or let go. We seek to understand suffering, but it’s not for us to solve the incomprehensible. We strive to be free of pain, but we hang on to the very things that cause our loneliness and feelings of inadequacy. We need not feel alone, though, because we have an ally.

God Himself, the Holy Spirit, can guide us and bring light to our darkness if we would only allow Him to come through and breakthrough our hardened souls. I believe this to be the solution to coping with CoVid and many other challenges we face in life; to survive a world permeated with deception, isolation, selfishness, and greed.

I tried to put these thoughts into music because I write songs to give God glory and a means to reach whoever He wants to speak to. My songs have one purpose: to share God’s immense love amidst all the noise of negativity and despair and inject a little hope in the world.

I pray that this song may touch someone’s darkness, whatever that might be, and see that if you open your heart to God, there truly is Light of Day.

LIGHT OF DAY 

Walking the streets so empty like never before
Something isn't right, who can explain?
The world around us is slowing down, what for?
Can you see Lord? Can you stop all this pain?

We went to your house Lord, but it was cold no one was there
No one in sight to hold us close
We heard a lot today that life is hard, so unfair
Fear all around us, wherever we go

  Is there a reason why You allowed such misery
  Breathe into our world your gift of mercy
  Will you reveal our life's purpose in this place
  Give guidance from above, send us your grace

Many are grieving, many have died all alone
People are crying out, we nee You so
No one is certain when will it end
Give us Your message that You wish to send

From the world protect us from the absence of love
Awake us from our dreams of greed by looking above
Light our paths and take the doubts that we endure
Shield our souls from all that is not pure

   We yearn to be courageous at all times and we try
   To see things from Your point of view, through your eyes
   Grant us a humble heart that we may sanctify this place
   Fill us with abundance, with Your love and grace

Renew me, live within him, free her heart that we all may see
Make our bodies strong, fight the unknown, focus on holy
Shine Your light on all, give us pardon, give us peace
Make this suffering cease

Save us, open our eyes to Your creation, world of majesty
Before we touch again, teach our hearts to feel
We'll see the light of day, for you are Lord, Savior of all
To our knees we fall, You are in control

   Renew the face of the earth, with Your mantle of love
   Comfort this place, our spirit revive
   Transform our ways, breathe Your fire from above
   Forgive us and keep our spirit alive

Heal us now, make us one with You, shed some light today
Our world is lost without You, fill our hearts and lead the way

   Make us one, lead us back to You, break this night of gray     
   May we wake tomorrow, only to see that hope is here to 
   stay
   Only a life with You worth living for can give us light of  
   day
   Cast our fears away, shine Your light and save, show us 
   the light of day 
   Strengthen us, we pray so we can finally see the light of 
   day.  Lead us to the light of day.
