Happy Birthday, Karl! I am excited as I am using the Ipad device you and Steph gave us for the first time. Like I told you earlier, it takes us, seniors, time to warm up to technology. I challenged Mama to sit beside me to familiarize ourselves with the gadget. Thankfully, it did not take long. I am now quietly cruising on my own, navigating, exploring, discovering. Mama’s presence was encouraging, and that was what I probably needed to start – a lesson I’ve learned in the past few days. Now and then, what we need is a prompter. Someone who quietly believes in us, like God!
And that is the world I am set to discover – beyond this Ipad! Thanks for the gift! God was stressing a point – HE CAN MAKE MIRACLES HAPPEN WHEN WE BELIEVE! Like what I found when in FAITH, I just set out to appeal for the sake of the 12 Padre Pio sixth graders, who were needing tuition sponsors. I ended up with both my hands full, and more children helped me to realize their dream! And who knows how many more are forthcoming? I just followed my God sense, telling me ‘to cast the net on the other side of the boat’ by doing something that I was not used to doing.
But by OBEYING, I discovered that I, in my 66 years of life experience, had much more to learn about myself and give to life. Now, I am on the road to sharing my Hunger mission with “Tito” Jerry and “Tita” Beth. I will open my heart to them! I sense that God will touch them! Who knows what I can reap by forwarding my good intention? I know it’s a leap of faith, and ‘Handa akong tumaya!'(I am willing to bet!)
That is precisely my birthday message to you! Today, you turn 39! While having dinner with Mama, I just shared with Manang (an older person) that I cried on the day you were born! Of course, that is common knowledge to you! But think today that if you live up to 80, then half of your glass has already been filled.
Think of how exciting your life will be – with Steph and your children IF YOU BELIEVED THAT GOD BELIEVES IN YOU! And that HE WISHES TO USE YOU (if you will allow Him) to BRING HOPE AND HAPPINESS TO MANY, especially the poor, who are unique to Him! Wow! That is a double blessing! By now, it must be clear to you that ‘Happiness IS in making others happy!’
I share your dream of a good and happy future for your children. I know that is planted deep in your heart as you go out daily to work and earn. Unfortunately, we cannot make a blessed future happen if we discount the poor, who today need food to grow healthy and strong, and education to qualify them for tomorrow’s opportunities. If we can assure that their future situations will not lead them to steal and kill for their survival, then WE CAN MAKE THAT FUTURE HAPPEN!
As our PADUGO (OFFERING) birthday gift to you, Mama and I have decided to help four kids (one each for Nala, Anya, Lexa, and Liya) through Kusina ng Kalinga’s Hunger Mission. This act of giving will assure us that your daughters will grow their families in a more secure, peaceful, and happy world even long after we are gone. Find time to tell the children of this story.
My heart desires to seed in them COMPASSION for needy children, who are not as blessed as they are. Also, for them to grow in confidence that there is a hungry child who they have fed, and caused to be happy!
All our love for you on your 39th! God fills the years ahead with His PRESENCE! HE ALONE IS OUR ROCK!

I SET OUT TO PRAY AND DREAM THAT THE FUTURE OF OUR FOUR GRANDDAUGHTERS WILL BE BLESSED BY A CARING ACT WE DO TODAY TO THE POOR, WHO MIGHT FIND BETTER OPPORTUNITIES TO INFLUENCE A HAPPIER WORLD TOMORROW.
